Carolina Design Company specializes in the custom engraving of phenolic labels for the electrical industry but these hardy labels can be used anywhere. By definition a phenolic label is resistant to chemical corrosion, abrasion, moisture, and extreme variations in temperature. Some industries and machine manufacturers require phenolic labels to be used in certain situations. Phenolic labels are also ideally suited for non hazardous environments that warrant permanent labeling. It is common to use this type of engraved label for personnel desktop name plates or room identifying labels on doors.

 
What is phenolic?

In today’s industrial and technological settings, “phenolic” is synonymous with plastic. It is the same as asking for a Kleenex™ when you need a tissue.

Phenolic is the early synthetic resin that paved the way for today’s plastic. It is the compound known as Bakelite, which was used for signage, costume jewelry, kitchen utensils and even vanity sets.

While “true” phenolic still has its place and is available, we are rarely called upon to supply it. Once in place, phenolic material is stable; however, due to the rigidity and brittleness of the cap and the tendency to become damaged in storage, we do not keep this material in stock.

Over 99 percent of our clients request modern, UV stable acrylic and plastic material for their labeling needs. This material is laserable and provides consistency throughout our customers’ projects.

What installation methods can be used?

Adhesive Labels

Adhesive Phenolic Labels are available in a variety of colors and resist chemical, abrasion, and extreme temperature variations. They are perfectly suited for electrical panel installations. These permanent adhesive labels are convenient to apply, just peel and stick.

Screw Mount Labels

Screw Mount Phenolic Labels can be used for doors, bin designation, and any application lending to screw mount attachment.

What situations require phenolic labels?
Phenolic labels are indicated in high temperature, abrasive, or potentially corrosive environments. Examples of use may include labeling of machine parts or instructions, electrical or safety equipment identification.
When will I receive my order?

Can I use my label outside?
Phenolic labels are suitable for outdoor installation but may experience color fading due to extensive exposure to sunlight.
Are there any safety issues regarding phenolic labels?
Safety issues are contained to manufacture of phenolic labels only. MSDS information citing explosive or carcinogenic potential are not applicable to finished labels. Carolina Design Company never uses Lamacoid, a discontinued product known to be carcinogenic.
